This is custom heading element

Atalanta is a slender and ergonomically designed fitness tracker held in place by a chest strap. It’s shaped to fit the various body types of both women and men. The entire device is curved to contour your chest — even the buckles.

What Atalanta Measures

Wear Atalanta under or above your shirt. Use it above ground or underwater and track your swim. The design naturally sits between your T5 and T6 ribs, and right over your heart cavity and diaphragm.

As you breathe, Atalanta moves with the expansion and relaxation of your ribcage.

What Atalanta Measures

Our fNIRS, thermometer, and patented breathing sensor technology provide you with the key metrics you need to optimize your training program.

Alerts include:

  • Dehydration
  • Fueling
  • Heatstroke
  • Hypothermia
  • Myocardial episode
  • Optimal zones

Heart rate

Atalanta captures your heart rate in beats per minute without using awkward electrodes.

As a general rule, the lower your overall beats per minute, the more efficiently your cardiovascular system is working.

Atalanta is more accurate than wrist monitors (which have 60% accuracy on average) and other chest bands (at 80% accuracy on average). Atalanta’s fNIRS technology delivers 98% accuracy under controlled conditions, and a minimum of 96% accuracy in the field.

Heart rate variability (HRV)

HRV helps you determine how much recovery time you need.

HRV is a historical metric that looks at the range of time between your heartbeats. The greater the variation, the better your body can adapt to changes in your activity level. If your HRV starts getting lower, you may need more rest.

Oxygen saturation of the blood

This metric helps you stay well hydrated and performing at your best.

The better hydrated we are, the better our blood is at transporting oxygen, and the better our muscles are at excreting lactic acid and CO2. Lactic acid can crystallize in our muscles and blood when we’re dehydrated, leading to poor performance and possibly cramping. Once you’re dehydrated, it takes a lot of time and rehydration to break down those lactic acid crystals, and in the meantime your performance drops.

Breathing depth and frequency

As you breathe, Atalanta moves with your ribcage to get a reading for breathing depth and rhythm. This metric will help you understand how consistently you’re breathing to oxygenate your muscles, and avoid bad habits like holding your breath.

If you lose your breathing rhythm, a cascade of effects in your body can throw off your workout or race, and even make you feel disoriented enough to have to stop.

Core body temperature

Competitive events can take place in humid tropical conditions, in deserts, or in cold temperate latitudes. If your body has to work too hard to regulate its temperature, you may be underperforming or even endangering your race season.

Atalanta’s infrared sensor takes ongoing temperature measurements, so it can warn you of potential heat stroke or hypothermia (especially important during swimming).

Caloric intake

You can program Atalanta to a determined caloric consumption threshold. Atalanta will provide you with your true burnt calories — see directly below — and over time  you can refine your nutritional intake to ensure that you’re always at your best.

For example, during a competition, a marathoner wants to know when she has burnt 150 calories so that she can have one of her performance gels before she crashes. Timing this well will replenish her energy stores before she builds up too much lactic acid and starts to cramp.

True calories burned (real time)

Most devices can only give you about 60% accuracy for your caloric expenditure. But this is key for planning your training program nutrition and your in-race fueling.

Atalanta uses the same biomedical formula used in sports medicine labs. It takes measurements for your heart rate, body temperature, volumetric displacement of plasma, and oxygen saturation of the blood to calculate your true calories burned. Based on three years of testing, this system will warn you when your energy levels are about to crash so you can fuel up and rehydrate in advance. This helps you avoid performance drops as your body recovers from lactic acid buildup.
